THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The four-year streak of wins over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps inside Gilbert Arena ended on Wednesday night as Cal Lutheran dropped a 67-56 decision. The Kingsmen trimmed a 19-point first half deficit down to just four but never came any closer.

Box Score: CMS 67, CLU 56 - F

Cal Lutheran fought all the way back to a four point deficit on a pair of occasions following three pointers from Jayvaughn Nettles. CMS countered once with a triple of its own and another by scoring three straight points.

The final straw was a three-pointer by CLU's Greg Grimm that was waived off after stepping on the sideline out of bounds. The basket would have cut the deficit to just three points with under two minutes remaining.

CMS took charge of the first half using scoring from big man Patrick Lacey and reserve Cody Mivshek both scoring 10 points. The Kingsmen were held to just 21 first half points for the second straight home game and trailed by 17 at intermission.

Tyler Gaffaney had a perfect shooting night and his and-one conversion to tie the game 7-7 was the start of a 13-1 scoring run that broke the game open.

The Kingsmen shot under 26 percent in the first half including an 0-for-8 performance from long range while the Stags enjoyed a 60 percent team shooting effort. CMS used smothering defense and transition offense to build a sizeable first half cushion.

Grimm scored 13 of his team-high 19 points in the second half and spearheaded the CLU comeback. Freshman Jeremy Sulker-Hall came off the bench in the first half to lead the Kingsmen with eight points through the opening period.

Cal Lutheran (6-7, 0-2 SCIAC) will travel to Pomona-Pitzer (6-7, 2-0 SCIAC) on Saturday, Jan. 15.
