Strong Start Leaves Beavers Behind

More news about: Cal Lutheran

PASADENA, Calif. - The start of Wednesday's men's basketball conference contest was a glimpse of what was to come throughout. Aaron Fisher scored the first five of his career-high 28 points to open the game as Cal Lutheran cruised to an 80-45 road victory over Caltech.

Box Score: CLU 80, CIT 45 - F

While CLU enjoyed a first half that featured a 17-of-26 shooting performance from the field, CIT connected on only 6-of-25 attempts. The Beavers team season leading scorers in Ryan Elmquist and Mike Edwards were held to just five combined first half points.

The result was a 16-1 start to the game and a 42-16 halftime cushion in favor of the Kingsmen. CLU led from start to finish and led by 20 points or more over the final 31 minutes of regulation.

The primary hot hand of Fisher went 10-for-17 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. He matched his career-high scoring output originally achieved in a conference game against La Verne as a sophomore.

Both he and Aaron Van Klaveren recorded double-doubles with 10 rebounds apiece. The duo led a team effort on the glass that provided a 45-30 advantage on the boards and 40-20 advantage in points and the paint.

Cal Lutheran allowance of 45 points to Caltech is a season best for the Kingsmen. Elmquist and Edwards scored nine apiece to lead the home squad, well under their average 16 points per game.

Cal Lutheran (8-7, 2-2 SCIAC) will host La Verne (8-7, 3-1 SCIAC) on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
