CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's basketball team (14-2, 6-1) continued their strong offensive and defensive play with an 81-66 road win Monday evening at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (P-P).
Jhace Boston got his first of what would be a career-high 10-assist night when he hit Jake Hlywiak for a three to open the scoring.
The next three baskets for the Bulldogs all came from behind the arc as Hlywiak found Chozen Amadi and Cam Brown and then Boston assisted Derek Sangster.
Following Sangster's three, Brown got into the paint before Omari Ferguson found Amadi to cap an 8-0 run which gave them a 17-9 lead with 14:12 on the clock.
P-P, though, came all the way back and led by as many as two, 25-23, at the 8:07 mark of the first half. Over the final eight minutes Redlands' defense held the Sagehens to only six points and they went into the break up eight thanks to a Donovan Ware three and a Brown 4-2 run.
Ferguson found Hlywiak for another three 12 seconds into the second half to give the Bulldogs their first double-digit lead, 42-31.
The Sagehens came back to make it an eight-point game twice and a nine-point game once, but Nathan Mattera hit a three with 16:18 remaining in the game to push Redlands ahead by 12 and they maintained their double figure advantage the rest of the way.
Hlywiak, Amadi, and Ware had 10 of their 13 threes. Boston finished with 10 assists, four rebounds, and three points as the Bulldogs assisted on 22 of their 32 made field goals.
Redlands now prepares for their third game against a ranked opponent as they host No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (CMS) this Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside Currier Gymnasium.
