CHICAGO -- The 2nd-ranked University of Chicago men's basketball team rolled to a 72-56 win over Brandeis on Friday night to improve their win streak to 12 consecutive games.
Despite the cold weather outside, the Maroons got out to a hot shooting shot inside en route to a quick 16-6 start over the Judges. Shane Regan scored the opening five points of the game, and Eamonn Kenah added another five to build a quick 10-point lead. Then, following the Judges' cutting the lead to six, Daniel Cochran and LJ Moore each hit triples to extend the lead to 14 at 27-13 with four minutes remaining in the opening half.
After a 39-24 lead at the break, UChicago had another hot start to the second half as a triple by Joe Berry extended the lead to 19, the largest at that point in the game for the Maroons. UChicago would build the lead to 21 at 58-37, and they would ride out the rest of the game for a 72-56 win at home.
Joe Berry and Shane Regan led the team with 13 points, and Daniel Cochran and Phillip Lawrence also finished in double figures with 10 points in the win. Cochran, Berry, and Nick Roper all led the team with seven boards, and Berry added a team-high three assists.
With the win, the Maroons improve to 14-1 on the season and 4-0 in UAA play. UChicago puts its 12-game win streak on the line on Sunday afternoon as they host the NYU Violets at 2 PM at the Ratner Athletic Center.
