Marymount Women’s Basketball Overwhelms St. Mary’s

More news about: Marymount

Arlington, Va. – Despite a somewhat sluggish start, the Saints poured in an impressive effort on Saturday afternoon, downing CAC foe St. Mary's quite handily, 57-37.  Marymount improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.

Kievanna Lacey registered her first double-double of the season in the victory, collecting 11 points while also maintaining quite a presence underneath the hoop with her 11 rebounds.

Kiki Laux led all scorers with a game-high 13 points, while Samantha Kane hauled in nine boards to round out the effort.

The Saints found themselves down right out of the gate, battling the Seahawks point-for-point over the game's opening five minutes.

It took a Nicole Viscuso jump shot at the 11:56 mark to swing some serious momentum in the Saints' direction.  Viscuso gave Marymount the slim 8-7 advantage – what would be the last lead change seen over the course of the contest.

A 9-0 run increased the margin to 12 points, 21-9, with the Saints finally stepping into their rhythm.  The Seahawks struggled to crack the double-digit deficit – eventually crawling within eight, 26-18, to close out the first half.

The second frame saw Marymount maintain its comfortable lead, always around ten points, until about the 12:51 mark.  The Saints once again erupted for an 8-0 run – this time extending the advantage to a daunting 44-28.

From there, notable rallies and runs appeared to be spent.  Marymount continued to chip away, but in a more subtle manner – shooting and converting two shots for every lone basket sunk by the visitors.

The Saints take a brief hiatus from CAC action this coming week, traveling to Montclair, N.J., to face No. 7/9 Monclair State.  Tip-off for the contest is slated for 2:30 p.m.
